APPLIED LINGUISTICS PRESS
OPEN ACCESS · EST 2023
"to provide a platform for the dissemination of high-quality research in the field of applied linguistics, while upholding the values of openness, accessibility, and inclusivity."
Applied Linguistics Press (ALP) is an academic publishing house by and for applied linguists. We seek to become one of the premier outlets for publishing in the field. Toward this end, we are guided by and committed to:
open science principles and practices;
fairness to authors, reviewers, editors;
increasing the accessibility of applied linguistics to the academic community and beyond
ALP currently publishes books (in digital/PDF format) of any length on any topic within applied linguistics. Works can be single- or co-authored monographs or edited collections. The Press may also be open to other types of publications such as popular linguistics writing, video series, tutorials, and journals in open access formats. As an exclusively digital press, our books are not limited to text and images; we encourage, in fact, the inclusion of links, visuals, videos, data, and other media.
ALP was founded in 2023 by Luke Plonsky (Northern Arizona University) who is also currently serving as the General Editor.
The press is run on a volunteer basis. If you'd like to get involved, please don't hesitate to get in touch.
The mission of Applied Linguistics Press is to provide a platform for the dissemination of high-quality research in the field of applied linguistics, while upholding the values of openness, accessibility, and inclusivity. We believe that knowledge should be free and readily available to anyone, regardless of their background, location, or resources. Therefore, we are committed to publishing our research in an open access format, ensuring that it can be accessed and used by anyone, anywhere in the world. Through our dedication to promoting the advancement of knowledge in applied linguistics, we aim to contribute to the betterment of society as a whole.

ALP is currently looking to bring on 1-3 individuals in the role of Open Science and Publication Intern. Duties include:
- Copyediting and formatting manuscripts according to the ALP style guide;
- Light web design (on Google Sites);
- Very light graphic design;
- Corresponding with potential authors and other stakeholders
The ideal Intern is an undergraduate or graduate student in linguistics or a related field who is (a) interested in academic publishing, (b) committed to (or at least curious about) open science, and (c) detail oriented and familiar with manuscript formatting conventions. Some background/experience in basic video and audio editing as well as graphic design are a plus but are not required. Internships involve a maximum of 5 hours/week.
ALP operates on an entirely volunteer basis. There are no current revenue streams and, as such, this is a volunteer (unpaid) internship. I do believe, however, that the experience of working with a 100% open access publisher and with all the editors and authors involved at ALP is worth the time and effort involved.
Interested? Send a short introduction/expression of interest via email to Luke Plonsky at lukeplonsky ["at" symbol] gmail dot com.
